Finally, govt wakes up to Kochi’s roads
KOCHI: Faced with the increasing public wrath against the deplorable condition of roads resulting in heavy traffic congestion at the busy Vyttila and Kundanoor junctions, where flyover construction is progressing, the state government has intervened to resolve the issue. As directed by PWD Minister G. Sudhakaran, PWD principal secretary G. Kamalavardhana Rao visited the spots along with district collector S. Suhas and officials of various government departments.
“The roads will be repaired in two weeks to ease traffic through the busy junctions. Strict instruction has been given to relay the service roads in two weeks using concrete tiles,” said the collector.
He will directly review the progress of construction of flyovers and road repair on a daily basis. Service roads will be widened to the maximum possible and potholes will be filled. Filling the potholes will be carried out on a regular basis. Big craters will be filled with wet mix or using other suitable methods. Numbers of the contractors maintaining the roads will be displayed on the road to help commuters register complaints.
