Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to submit a ‘report card’ on the half of his five-year term. Mr Rao is planning a mega public meeting in Hyderabad sometime in December where he will spell out the government achievements, ongoing projects and what’s next on the agenda. Two private surveys, one of them national, had recently described him as the most popular Chief Minister and ranked him No. 1 CM in the country and project that the TRS will win 109 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha seats if election were to be held today. Naturally, Mr Rao wants the euphoria around his rule to continue at the public meeting, notwithstanding a marginalised Opposition.
“It’s basically to pep up the morale of party leaders and cadre. Like any ruling party in the past, party activity slows down once the party comes to power. It happens with every party and TRS is no exception. Since TRS government will be completing 2.5 years of its rule, review of performance and internal assessment is quite normal,” say senior TRS leaders. The CM held preliminary talks with party leaders on Diwali day on the proposed public meeting. “The venue and date are yet to be fixed. Several dates are considered, including December 2,” a TRS leader said.
Ever since the TRS, led by Mr Rao, swept to power, winning 63 of the 119 Assembly seats in the state, the CM has taken several radical decisions, launched unusual welfare schemes like Rs 1,000 old-age pension, 2BHK houses for poor, Mission Kakatiya to revive defunct tanks, Mission Bhagiratha to supply tap water to every home and the latest — creation of 31 districts by reorganising the existing 10 districts in the state. While some of his decisions have received bouquets, he had been severely criticised for others.
