Security upped for BRS MLAs, MPs, candidates

Hyderabad: In the wake of Monday’s attack on Medak MP and BRS candidate for the Dubbak Assembly seat Kotha Prabhakar Reddy in Siddipet district, the state police department has decided to enhance security for all BRS MLAs, MPs and also to provide adequate security for other contesting candidates of the BRS.

Orders have been issued to all CPs, SPs and all related wings from the state intelligence department late on Monday. The existing 2+2 and 3+3 cover has been enhanced to 4+4 cover. All unit officers have been directed to ensure the cover is provided to the MLAs, MPs and candidates under their respective jurisdictions.

However, the orders did not mention any security arrangements to the contesting candidates from other parties.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA and Dubbak candidate M. Raghunandan Rao, met the chief electoral officer of Telangana alleging that the state intelligence chief has in violation of Model Code of Conduct issued a circular to enhance security for all contesting BRS MLA and MPs.

He also sought stringent action and transfer of commissioner of police and assistant commissioner of police of Siddipet. “Post attack on Dubbak BRS candidate Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, the BRS workers took the opportunity and attacked our party workers, ransacked the houses of our party sympathisers and caused irreparable damage to the life and property in the constituency. They have also resorted to acts like burning my effigies and pasting posters portraying BJP workers as having committed the act,” Raghunandan Rao said in his complaint.
