Trippunithura to get mini hub
Kochi: The stage is set for the execution of the Rs 290-crore Trippunithura mini hub project, an integrated transit terminal acting as a converging point of Kochi Metro, the railways and the transport buses, with the state government granting permission for the commencement of land acquisition process.
“The urban affairs department has given nod for acquiring 12.90 acres for setting up a modern bus terminal near Trippunithura railway station,” Trippunithura Muni-cipal chairperson Chandrika Devi said. “The metro station will also be located there. We will construct a 21-metre wide road connecting SN Junction along ‘Refinery Road’ to the railway overbridge along the Hill Palace Road.”
The straight road will connect the railway station and the elevated Metro will come through the centre of the road.
Following government nod, the municipality has requested the district collector to fix fair compensation rate for acquiring the plots. “Special permission was needed as some portion of the proposed site falls under the ‘wetland’ category. We’ve been directed to hold negotiations with nearly 20 land owners,” she said.
The mini hub will have the potential to be developed into a major transit hub, said V.C. Jayendran, convener, Trippunithura Rajana-gari Union of Residents' Associations.
