BRS to begin LS poll plan meetings from today, sharpens line of attack

Hyderabad: Amidst increased interest from hopefuls for the coming Lok Sabha elections seeking BRS tickets, especially from constituencies in which the party did well in the recent Assembly elections, the party is all set to begin its preparations for the Parliament elections with its first constituency level gathering from Adilabad set for Wednesday.

The party had already announced that it will hold 16 such meetings covering the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state starting January 3. While it plans to have individual meetings for 15 constituencies, it will have a joint meeting for the Hyderabad and Secunderabad constituencies on January 21, the last day of the series of these gatherings.

Party sources said there is a lot of interest among party leaders for contesting from Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, Chevella, and Medak constituencies where the party did well in the Assembly polls.

In Malkajgiri, the BRS won from all the seven Assembly segments, while in Secunderabad and Medak, it won six each, followed by four in Chevella. The party believes that it can do well in these constituencies given the public support it has. The BRS currently has nine members in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the BRS’ attack lines for the Lok Sabha elections are getting crystallised with indications from senior party leaders on issues that the party cadres are being asked to go to the people with. For instance, on Tuesday, senior party leader and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao, addressing a BRS thanksgiving meeting in Dubbak, called on party leaders and cadre to work hard with double the enthusiasm in the coming elections.

“People are already noticing the difference between our government and the Congress government now. The Congress said it will give free power for 200 units after coming to power but has not done so. And if it does not carry out its promise of farm loan waiver before the Lok Sabha elections, then it will not have any moral right to ask for votes again. We should canvas how the Congress government is not keeping its promises, including all its six guarantees. We must demand that it keep all of its 412 assurances it gave to the people before the elections,” Harish Rao said.
