Eluru: Call to help check maternal deaths
Eluru: West Godavari Collector Praveen Kumar directed officials from women development and child welfare and health departments to coordinate with each other and come up with an action plan that could help bring down infant and maternal mortality rate in the district.
Taking part in a meeting with the officials here on Friday, the Collector instructed the officials to keep tab on registration of high number of mortalities village-wise in the district and initiate all necessary measures to control them. He felt the need to ensure proper supervision on supply of supplementary nutrition to children and pregnant women under various schemes to see that the beneficiaries suffer no health issue due to malnutrition. He also laid stress on keeping a check on anaemia among pregnant women and adolescent girls by providing necessary support.
The Collector felt the need to complete the construction of sanctioned buildings to accommodate Anganwadi Centres and also called for efforts to control child marriages. Referring to implementation of Domestic Violence Act, the Collector stated that out of 2,751 cases registered in the district so far, nearly 797 cases were in the purview of the concerned courts while 750 cases were compromised. He reviewed the implementation of several welfare and health schemes in the district with the concerned officials.
