Hyderabad: The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (Kisan) has come like a double bonanza for small farmers of Telangana state who will get an additional Rs 6,000 per year on top of the state government’s Rythu Bandhu scheme.
The state government, which had given Rs 4,000 financial assistance per acre per season across the board to all farmers irrespective of their land holdings during the last Kharif, has now decided to increase the assistance to Rs 5,000 per acre per season.
The Centre provides funds for housing, public distribution system and others through the state governments.
Many state governments utilise funds from the Centre to implement their own schemes, like double-bedroom houses in both the Telugu states.
Maintaining that financial assistance under the new scheme will be credited directly into the beneficiary account, state government officials said on condition of anonymity that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao instructed them not to meddle with the Centre’s scheme, to let poor farmers receive the additional benefit without reference to the assistance under Rythu Bandhu.
