KOZHIKODE: With an aim to reuse the watersheds in the city, the city corporation has decided to convert them to swimming pools for training children and adults interested in the sport.
As an attempt towards it the corporation council meeting held on Friday has decided to convert the watershed at Nellikode into a swimming pool.
The council has decided to acquire 69.70 cents of land around the watershed here. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran pointed out that the Sports Council has promised to meet the expense for the swimming pool. At the same time, K.T. Beerankoya, opposition councilor demanded corporation to reveal the real body behind the implementation of the project.
Mohammed Shame-ela, (IUML) councilor said that, at a time when the corporation is stepping back from implementing several developmental projects within the city limit, it should not give stress for such small initiatives like swimming pool in a region.
The mayor replying to the demand raised by corporation opposition councilors said that,the corporation is yet to decide on who will take the responsibility of the financial requirements of the project. Mohammed Shameela further in the council meeting pointed out that, inspite applying under the PMY scheme for house construction, the corporation is yet to sanction the last installment of financial aid to the needy.
