Plans to shift Hyderabad jail gains momentum
Hyderabad: The state government has speeded up the process of shifting several institutions as sought by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Mr Rao had announced the shifting of Chanchalguda jail to Cherlapally, the Secretariat to a location on defence land and the Malakpet Race Course to the outskirts of the city.
The government has already sent out details of shifting the Chanchalguda prison to Cherlapally and sought the requirements.
Prisons’ director-general V.K. Singh said, “The government has asked about our requirements at the proposed building at Cherlapally.”
The government has sent proposals to the ministry of defence to utilise the Bison Polo Ground which is with the Secunderabad Canton-ment Board. The defence estates DG or additional DG, visiting Hyderabad later this month, will review the proposal.
SCB defence estates officer A Shekar Babu said the board had proposed an alternative 500-acre site near Suchitra at Kompally. The process for shifting the 117-acre Malakpet Race Course may face problems as the government has not identifying any alternative land.Race course officials have sought about 200 acre inside the Outer Ring Road to shift out.
Ranga Reddy revenue officials have identified five parcels of land including one at the proposed Science City at Budvel under Rajendranagar mandal.Officials have also identified a 1,200-acre site in Chandavelli and Sitharam-puram of Shabad mandal, about 200 acre in Kanaka-mamidi of Moinabad mandal, 170 acre at Cherlapally and 200 acre at Janwada in Shankarpally mandal.
Sources said that endowment land at Janwada, adjacent to the city, would be suitable for the race course but the land is tied up litigation.“Only the land parcels at Kanakamamidi, Janwada and Budvel meet the requirements of the race course officials,” an official said told this newspaper
