Mysuru: Media should not be prejudiced, says H D Kumaraswamy

The media plays a vital role in forming public opinion and so cannot be biased.

Mysuru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy of Friday urged the media to avoid glorifying lies, and retain its credibility with truthful, objective reports.

Addressing the 34th state level journalists' conference in Suttur, Nanjangud taluk, here, he suggested it focus more on stories of human interest , respond to problems of ordinary people, and save them from those who tried to divide them in the name of religion and caste.

"The media plays a vital role in forming public opinion and so cannot be biased. It must be objective in reporting the policies of the government, and also highlight its developmental work. It should not glorify crime and inform as well as entertain," he added.

Later, speaking to reporters at T Narsipur taluk in Moogur , Mr Kumaraswamy welcomed the release of IAF officer, Abhinandan by the Pakistan government, saying. "I am happy he is coming back to India safely. Under the Geneva agreement, whenever soldiers are captured by a rival country during a war, they must be sent back within seven days. And so Pakistan has sent him back."

Asked if the BJP was politicising the current tension in the country, he said, "there has been a lot of discussion on this. I will not react on it."

To a question on the objection of late actor/politician, Ambareesh's fans to his statement on him in Mandya on Wednesday, the CM explained he had said nothing against him. "I did not say that Ambareesh did not work, but only that the government then did not work. As long as Ambareesh was alive we enjoyed a good friendship. So why will I comment on him?”
