Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy, while reviewing drinking water situation, ordered the Rural Water Scheme department officials to ensure that the supply reaches the villages where it it is vital. He pointed out that the temperatures are still on the higher side in the district. He also ordered the District Collector to sanction bore wells for drinking water as per the requests of the concerned MLAs. He suggested the classification of the work into supplying of water through tankers to drought-hit villages, digging bore wells where water is available and replacing damaged pipelines categories to complte them.
The minister ordered the Rural Water Scheme (RWS) Superintendent Engineer to identify availability of water resources that can cater to the drinking water needs of 145 villages reeling under severe drought every year. He asked him to ensure availability of at least 1.26 TMC ft water from Sunkesula Barrage with which the drinking water problems of the town could be met. Schemes relating to drinking water have to be given top priority for the early completion, said KE Krishna Murthy.
The deputy CM advised the Irrigation department, Superintendent Engineer to complete the construction of irrigation projects by end of August.
Reacting to the ministers advice, the Hundri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi, Superintendent Engineer said, 87 per cent of Guru Raghavendra project work, 87 per cent at Mucchumarri lift irrigation project work and 53 per cent of Pulakurthy have been completed. The rest would be completed within stipulated time. Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh and Zilla Parishad Chairman Mallela Raja Sekhar, attended the meeting.
