Deficit of rainfall came down in July: IMD
Hyderabad: With July having ended, the state is facing an 18 per cent deficit in rainfall. Rain in the last week improved the situation somewhat and led to the commencement of sowing operations. The deficit at the end of June was 37 per cent, which was wiped out by the rainfall in the last week of the month.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD), long range forecast, the second half of the monsoon from August to September, will witness cent per cent rainfall and the state is likely to get out of the deficit zone. The state received 309.1 mm rainfall in July against the normal of 375.3 mm. Many districts are still reeling under deficit rainfall, including Nalgonda, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, Khammam. Only a few districts have received surplus or normal rainfall like Komaram Bheem, Warangal, Karimngar, Jagtial and Adilabad.
An expert from the IMD said, “As per the long range forecast for the second half of the monsoon, normal rainfall is expected in August and September, with a model error of plus or minus 8 per cent. For August, the normal rainfall is 220 mm and for September 161 mm.” The normal rainfall is the average of the last 50 years.
On Thursday, there were short spells of light to moderate showers throughout the state. Narayanpet recorded the highest rainfall at 42.5 mm. The city was cloudy but recorded light rainfall, the highest being 14.3 mm in Quthbullapur.
