Hyderabad: Cases of dengue, fever, diarrhea and food contamination are at an all time high, stated doctors in the city as the prolonged summer and then rains have created a climate of debilitating viral infections. Viral infections are being noted in combination with problems of diarrhoea as water and food contamination is leading to outbursts across various parts of the city.
Dr Hari Kishan B., senior general physician at Apollo Hospitals, explained, “Cases of dengue began being reported from May onwards and has been very high in July. The numbers are at an all time high this year compared to July last year.”
District medical and health officers recorded only 70 dengue cases in July but doctors state that the number is higher.
Dr Anish Anand, senior general physician, said, “All dengue cases do not require admission and as they are coming early, they are being effectively treated. But the numbers are much higher compared to last year. In 2018, the cases started coming from July and August onwards. But this year, the cases are being reported from May onwards. This means that the number of infections will be much more.”
To add to this, the water woes of the city, in terms of the dependency on tanker water and also from dead resources of the reservoirs are adding to a lot of gastroenteritis problems in the city. Dr G Srinivas Rao said, “The cases of flu and viral fevers have a combination of gastro problems. Some of them complain of vomiting and diarrhea and it requires a proper combination of treatment for these patients.”
Contamination is always an issue in the rainy season but experts state that this year, the delayed rains have added to the woes and to the spread of diseases.
