Guntur: 1 dead, 30 sick, and alarm spreads for dengue

Locals say no help forthcoming; babus blame them over hygiene.

GUNTUR: Following the death of a man and 30 suffering from suspected dengue and viral fevers in Kummaripalem of the Vinukonda Mandal of Guntur district, district medical and health department started a medical camp to control the epidemic. According to reports, Ch. Yedukondalu suffering from suspected dengue fever was admitted to a hospital in Guntur and died there. His daughter Tirupatamma was also suffering from suspected dengue and being treated.

K. Ramabrhamam, K. Narasimha Rao and G. Venkayama were also admitted to GGH Guntur for fevers. G. Adinaryana, K. Vaisali, M. Manasa and others were also admitted to various hospitals at Vinukonda. The villagers said that they were suffering from fever for the past week but no one came to the village to offer any treatment. They said that they were forced to go to private hospitals for treatment. They said that the doctors were suspecting the spread of dengue fever and sought the medical and health department to provide treatment.

Yenugupalem Primary Healthcare Center medical officer Dr Sunil Naik visited the village and started treatment to locals through a medical camp. He said that unhygienic conditions in the village were the cause of the spread of fevers. He said that there is no proper drainage system in the village and stagnated drainage water was allowing mosquitoes to breed further causing fevers. He said that 29 people were primarily found suffering from fevers. Blood samples were sent for tests to confirm dengue fever. He opined that the villagers are suffering from viral fevers and now the position is under control. YSR Congress Vinukonda in-charge B. Brahma Naidu and other leaders visited Kummaripalem.
