Secunderabad Cantonment Board's survey off the ground, after long wait
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board’s (SCB) much-anticipated survey on civil areas is getting off the block. After a seven-month wait, the cantonment authorities roped in Kolkata-based CyberSwift Infotech to undertake the task. CyberSwift quoted Rs19.3 lakh for conducting the survey. Three city-based firms — Geo Infospace, Ramky Enviro Services, IIC Technologies were also in the fray.
According to the authorities, agreement formalities would be completed in three weeks after which the survey would start. Field works, tabulation of data, documentation and report submission will be completed in six months.
The Cantonment’s civil area comprises 16 bazaars, including Bollarum Bazaar, Lal Bazaar, Gunrock Bazaar, Picket Bazaar, Tadbund Bazaar, etc, spread over 256 acres in eight divisions.
The defence estates wing directed SCB to survey the land in civilian areas. The last survey was done in 1953. The board wants an internal survey on 16 bazaars to find out built-up areas, vacant lands, roads and community parks and encroachments. Sources said the SCB plans to unearth encroachments because no internal survey was done for the last several decades.
Dr Swarna Subba Rao, national head of the Survey of India had stated a few weeks before his retirement that the survey can be carried without much fuss wi-th advanced technologies.“Using drones, one can take aerial images and find out the exact land situation. This map can be compared with the old map to track the changes,” Dr Rao said.
