Indian Railways swiftly delivers ex gratia payments to train accident victims

Ex gratia payments to the injured began on the very day of the accident, with the first disbursements made by 11 pm

Visakhapatnam: The Waltair Division of Indian Railways has set a new record for the fastest disbursement of ex gratia payments to train accident victims. On October 26, a train accident occurred in the Kantakapalli-Alamanda section, leaving several passengers injured and deceased.

Under the guidance of General Manager Manoj Sharma and Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad, the railway authorities sprang into action to provide immediate relief to the victims and their families.

Ex gratia payments to the injured began on the very day of the accident, with the first disbursements made by 11 pm. A remarkable 19 injured individuals received their compensation within just 6 hours, and all 30 injured passengers had received their due ex gratia payments within 12 hours of the incident.

Ex gratia payments for the deceased victims were also disbursed within 20 hours, with the exception of a single case where the process required an additional day due to the complexities of identification and verification. In total, the Railways disbursed Rs 1.73 crore as ex gratia payments to the victims, providing much-needed support to the affected families.

The Waltair Division's swift and efficient response to the train accident is a testament to the Indian Railways' commitment to providing timely and compassionate assistance to victims and their families in times of need.
