Bengaluru: As if being the father of a child with cancer is not enough, this man is disabled, poor and is struggling to get his son treated at the government-run Kidwai hospital.
Nooral Islam, father of three-year-old Ashraf Islam from Bangladesh, is trying desperately to arrange funds for his son's everyday medicine and chemotherapy.
Despite requesting for a cheaper bed at Aniketan ward, which would cost him Rs 150 a day, he has been told to shift to Ayesha Block, where the charge is 750 per day. “I requested them that since I am disabled and from a different country, I should be given a cheaper bed. But I was asked to shift to Ayesha Block. Every day is a struggle for me. It is almost a month now, and I can only go on for a few more days," he said.
He was seen going around asking for money for chemotherapy. A few NGOs have been helping him with either the medicine or units of blood. “I have already shelled out close to Rs 30,000 for the treatment for two weeks. The doctors are expecting the stay and visit here to be for at least six months. It is difficult for patients like us," he said. It has not been easy to get assistance from the staff either, an activist trying to help him revealed. Citizens are pitching in to help Nooral and his son with arrangements.
