I have only one voter ID card, says Prakash Raj
Mangaluru: Refuting claims that he had voter identity cards in three different places, popular filmstar, Prakash Raj clarified on Saturday that he had only one voter ID.
“Let them prove their allegation and I will prove that I have only one voter ID,” Mr Raj told reporters referring to a complaint by one Jagan Kumar J of Bengaluru to the Chief Election Commissioner on November 30 that he had violated the Representation of People’s Act, 1951 by exercising his franchise in three different places.
“I don't know the background of the complaint. But I have only one voter ID in Adyar in Tamil Nadu. Someone asked me recently why I did not vote in Karnataka, but as I have been living in Adyar for about 20 years I have my voter ID card there,” he explained.
Earlier speaking at the inauguration of Jana Nudi, the actor said he was concerned at the political colour being given to the Sabarimala issue by the BJP.
“The president of the ruling party at the Centre was openly seen telling his cadres that it (Sabarimala issue) is a golden opportunity and asked them to use it to help the party grow in Kerala," he deplored.
Former high court judge, Justice H N Nagamohan Das, who was also present, spoke of his worry at the external pressures being brought on the judiciary in the country.
Giving the example of the Ayodhya dispute, he said groups were lobbying for a particular judgment and even setting the time frame for the settlement of the issue.
