ANANTAPUR: Heavy rains are lashing many parts of Anantapur region since Thursday night following a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. Atlur mandal witnessed the highest rainfall of 25 mm, followed by 13.6 mm in Chennur, and 13.2 mm in Vontimitta mandal.
Siddavatam in Kadapa district received 9.4 mm rainfall, while Kamalapuram mandal witnessed 6.2 mm and Vallur mandal 5.2 mm of rainfall.
Sources said though Kadapa district has received incessant rains, majority of its mandals are still deficient in rains.
Metrological department has predicted rains in many parts of the region for the next couple of days in view of the impending cyclone in Bay of Bengal.
Rains are expected to lower the temperature in Rayalaseema region, where the maximum temperature is around 34 degrees, after touching 38 degrees a few days ago.
