Hyderabad: BJP MP and OBC morcha national president Dr. K. Laxman paid rich tributes to social reformer Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary here on Wednesday.
He lauded her contribution towards making education accessible for girls and women and the gutsy manner she fought social ills.
D. Laxman said, “She fought against discrimination against widows and killing of illicit children. She ran an ashram to provide shelter to widows and advocated equality of all humans. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is walking in her footsteps and supporting women in performing well in education, health and politics.”
The Congress failed to empower women despite the presence of Sonia Gandhi. The credit for giving 33 per cent reservation to women in legislative bodies and making an adivasi woman as the country’s president goes to Modi, he said.
