Chennai: Multi-level parking facility in T Nagar

Foundation stone laid for Rs 36.54 crore project.

CHENNAI: Motorists visiting busy T Nagar would not have to search for a parking space in the future, as the Greater Chennai Corporation has commenced construction work of a multi-level vehicle parking at a whopping Rs 36.54 crore.

At an event held on Thyagaraya Road and Thanikachalam Road junction, where the swanky parking space would come, rural administration minister S.P. Velumani, fisheries minister D. Jayakumar and rural industries minister P. Benjamin laid the foundation stone, on Friday.

According to a Chennai corporation official, the facility would have 2 underground basements, one ground level floor and 6 floors. “Two basements can accommodate nearly 550 two-wheelers. In all, 250 cars can be parked on other floors,” the official said.

The parking facility would have automated systems and could with withstand natural disasters. The project has been taken under the Smart City Mission.

“The multi-level parking space will be constructed on 16,146 sq.ft of land. A dilapidated corporation warehouse has been razed down to make way for the multi-level parking,” the official added.
