New VCs of TNOU, Bharathiar University to take charge today
Chennai: Professors M. Baskaran and A. Ganapathy have been appointed as Vice-Chancellors of Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) and Bharathiar University.
Professor Baskaran is currently working as a special officer of seed centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has 27 years of experience in both teaching and field work. He also worked as the head of the department of seed technology.
Professor Ganapathy is a retired professor from the department of biotechnology and genetic engineering in Bharathidasan University. He also has more than 25 years experience in teaching.
Both the vice-chancellors are expected to take charge on Thursday. After TNOU Vice-Chancellor Chandrakantha Jayabalan’s term ended on January 17, a three-member search panel was formed to select the new V-C. The panel has recommended three members to Governor K. Rosaiah and he appointed Baskaran as Vice-Chancellor.
Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor James Pitchai’s term ended last September. University of Madras Vice-Chancellor search panel meeting has been convened on Thursday. Sources in the panel said whether a new VC will be appointed before the election will be known after the meeting.
