Kozhikode: 20 MSF activists held for CU clash
Kozhikode: The Thenhippalam police arrested 20 MSF-Youth League workers on Saturday in connection with the violence in front of the Calicut University main gate on Friday when the policed prevented the protest march by the workers.
More students and outsiders are involved in the violence that rocked the area. A search is on to nab those who have absconded. The arrested were remanded in 14 days' judicial custody, according to police.
Seven police personnel, several students and three journalists were injured in stone-pelting and clashes in the protest march staged by MSF activists on the Calicut University campus on Friday. They were protesting against the alleged sidelining of their members in the ongoing C Zone youth festival.
The injured were admitted to a private hospital. The MSF and the students' wing of Muslim League had protested against the vice-chancellor at the senate on Thursday.
The students alleged that nearly 166 students under their union were deliberately not included in the C Zone participation list. With the High Court order, they had approached the VC, but the SFI members stood against the order, which resulted in the clash.
