Hyderabad: Health officials, doctors in a tizzy
Hyderabad: Declaration of one confirmed case of corona virus Covid 19 by central health ministry via a press release has led to ‘bruised ego’ for health department and doctors of the state unable to come to terms with the announcement.
Caught unawares, doctors of Gandhi Hospital were upset and senior doctors left to meet health minister Etala Rajendra to brief him. They were alerted by the social media release of the announcement. Virology department has certified laboratory by the central government for carry out the tests and its senior staff was extremely angry snubbing junior doctors on inquiry about the case.
The patient’s throat swabs were tested in the hospital and it was positive. Another sample was also sent to National Virology Institute in Pune. The central government received the information of a confirmed case from NIV and declared the same. But the laboratory in Gandhi Hospital was yet to get the confirmation from Pune.
The tests sample reports from NVI are sent online for immediate action to the hospital.
The confirmed case was not declared by the doctors as they had to follow the protocol of alerting the state health minister Etala Rajendra. In the afternoon, the health minister was also caught off guard as he had no idea of a positive case. There was a medical review meeting going on in Koti and the minister was a part of it. The declaration sent all senior doctors and health officials in a fire fighting spree.
