Hyderabad\'s coronavirus case sets Karnataka on alert

Surveillance teams have been activated right down to the rural level

Bengaluru: In the wake of a Bengaluru-based IT worker testing positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) in Hyderabad yesterday, the Karnataka health department has set its district response teams (DRT) on alert.

After the Hyderabad case was reported, the district surveillance office of Bangalore Urban district received information about a possible Covide-2019 case residing in an apartment in the city. However, the health department confirmed that it was a false alarm.

As part of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), daily monitoring is being done of all medical college hospitals in the state and follow-up action on suspected cases is being taken by teams at the state and district levels.

The state has nominated state and district level nodal officers to do the monitoring.

A dedicated ambulance has been provided to the airport health organization at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru to transport suspected cases of Covid-19 straight from the airport to designated hospitals.

Around 50 hospitals have been identified for isolation and treatment of suspected Covid-19 cases, out of which 31 are public health facilities including district hospitals.

The state has identified two laboratories for testing of corona-suspected cases.
