Rape case accused gets anticipatory bail
Hyderabad: Justice C. Sumalatha of the Telangana High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail in a case pertaining to rape. The petition was filed by Tadanki Karteek, 33, a private company employee. Counsel for the petitioner argued that Karteek met the complainant while she was staying in a hostel. Both of them got to know each other and were planning to get married; the complainant had introduced him to her parents.
As they were interested in each other, they participated in consensual sex. After this, the petitioner tried to postpone the marriage. The woman filed a complaint alleging rape. The court concluded that a proposal for marriage which ended up in consensual sex had nothing to do with rape and granted bail with a bail bond of Rs 50,000.
Two advocates injured in road accident
Two advocates of the Telangana High Court survived a road accident on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway on Friday, about 10 km from a popular eatery. The advocates, Deepak Misra, 43, and Mayur Mundra, 33, were travelling in a car belonging to the latter. The car overturned when they tried to avoid a school bus that had suddenly swerved.
While Misra suffered minor bruises, Mundra was moved to the Government Hospital at Suryapet. Mayur was diagnosed with a rib fracture and was later admitted in a corporate hospital in the city. Both lawyers are from the office of senior counsel L. Ravichander.
Contempt petition closed
Justice Lalitha Kanneganti of the Telangana High Court on Friday closed a contempt petition after recording the appearance of Palvancha municipality commissioner Ch Srikanth. The judge was dealing with a contempt petition filed by one G. Rajesh who had complained that the commissioner was not demolishing an illegal construction raised by one Chandru Naik who had not obtained building permission.
While disposing the writ petition the court had earlier directed the commissioner to conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action. When the commissioner failed to take any steps, Rajesh filed a contempt plea. The judge summoned commissioner Ch Srikanth. When the case came up for hearing, standing counsel informed the court that another bench of the High Court had passed orders maintaining status quo and hence the commissioner was unable to conduct enquiry and demolish the building. In view of the pendency of writ petition, the court directed the petitioner to take steps in the pending writ and closed the contempt.
Lifer questions evidence, gets bail
A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court enlarged on bail Osru Venkatesh, a convict sentenced to life imprisonment by the VIII Additional Sessions Judge, Mahbubnagar. The convict was accused of killing his wife and three-year-old daughter with a vegetable knife. K. Vasanth Rao, counsel from the legal aid panel, appearing for petitioner, said the evidence of the lone witness, who is the brother of the accused, would only establish the presence of the petitioner and not the killing.
The bench referred to the FSL report that said there was no evidence to show that the petitioner was present with the deceased prior to the incident. The bench of Justice M. Laxman and Justice G. Anupama Chakravarthy suspended the sentence of life imprisonment and released the accused on conditional bail.
