Salem: The Salem police have booked a case against the AIADMK minister B. Valarmathi for her defamatory remarks against the DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and M.K. Stalin at an election meeting in Salem about a fortnight ago. On March 17, the minister Valarmathi who addressed an AIADMK election meeting along with other ministers, made defamatory statements against the DMK leaders in violation of the Representations of People Act.
Immediately, the DMK handed over a videotape of the minister's speeches to the flying squad officials of the election commission and lodged a formal complaint against her. The election officials, in turn, lodged a complaint with the Salem Town police. However, the police maintained that they have to get legal opinion before filing a case against the minister.
