Karnataka: Kids' summer camps scorching parents' pockets
Bengaluru: A scorching summer is on, and the heat is on the parents. With most schools closed till June 1, parents are now putting their children in various summer camps.
The camps have become a lucrative business with most of them charging up to Rs 15,000 per student and they last hardly up to 2 1/2 hours a day. Over hundred of camps have come across the city and they offer training in activities such as music, dancing, sports, art & craft, origami etc.
Most pre-schools have launched the ‘summer camps’ sensing an opportunity. For parents, school summer holidays mean an additional stress of keeping the children busy and summer camps come in handy.
The activities offered at the ‘summer camps’ vary, depending on the age group. For very small children, it includes Japanese paper arts origami and kirigami, music and dance, story-telling, sand pit, pottery, doll-making, glass painting etc.
For the older children, apart from the activities mentioned above, training is also provided in badminton, public speaking, money management, Yoga, etiquette and manners too.
Each summer camp vies with the other in offering more innovative activities. For instance Melange Academy at HRBR layout offers classes in hip hop, ballet.etc.
Kidika, also at HRBR Layout even involves parents. Activities for them include doll-making, ‘Chocolate & Baking’ and even the Art of Parenting!
In Ramamurthy Nagar, a FIDE titled player is offering to train kids in chess, while Forefront Academy at HRBR Layout is offering classes in foreign languages including German, French, Spanish and for some reason, Arabic!
Sports outfits too have jumped into the fray. Agon Sports at Hennur is offering swimming and badminton. It boasts of a heated swimming pool and 10 badminton courts. At Horamavu, Altis Arena is offering badminton coaching for two months.
