Facebook page 'Spirit of Telangana' admin held for remarks
HYDERABAD: The admin of a Facebook page ‘Spirit of Telangana’ was picked up by the city police on Monday for allegedly posting derogatory comments against the government. The police action has sparked outrage on social media.
“Illegal detention of Prashant is an attack on freedom of speech and expression. TRS is unable to digest the dissent on social media, more particularly the Facebook page ‘Spirit of Telangana’ which has lakhs of viewership and followers. Congress vows to stand by Prashant and warn that the government would be responsible if any untoward incident happens to him,” Congress leader Krishank said.
A video posted on the same page claimed that, “Prashanth was detained by the Task Force Police. The page, ‘Spirit of Telangana’ was started for the state and is working for the people. Prashanth’s arrest is a revenge after we exposed the land scam at Suryapet district. The scam revealed that associates of a senior minister had purchased land and set up new collectorate in it”. The video further said that they came without any warrant and men in mufti came and picked him.
“We are appealing to the public to demand Prashanth’s immediate release. Such acts will not deter us. Our only aim is to fight for the people and expose any mistake or irregularity from the government. We are ready to face any consequences and case. The (state) government’s iron foot on social media should be condemned” The Facebook page has six admins, including four NRIs. Prashant is one of the admins and was picked up by the West Zone Task Force police for interrogation on Monday.
