Hyderabad: No staff to evaluate postgraduate exam
Hyderabad: Osmania University needs 1,268 evaluators to correct 77,000 answer scripts of postgraduate students. Currently they have 600 evaluators and this is the reason for delay in the results. For the academic year 2018-19, the OU introduced the online evaluation system.
A certain percentage of evaluators are poorly acquainted with the technology while a few are encountering technical obstacles which are delaying correction. The university does not want a repeat of the Intermediate results fiasco.
An officer working at the Controller of Examination office, OU, said, “For the PG examination, evaluation is done twice, one internally and the other externally, even for semesters. Because the University is short-staffed, we have decided to call evaluators from surrounding universities to examine the scripts.”
In the last semester, over two lakh undergraduate students wrote the examinations, which equals 15 lakh scripts, considering the number of subjects per semester. Since the UG scripts are evaluated once, the results have been declared early. But in the case of PG, double evaluation is needed and at times triple because there is no scope for re-evaluation. Over 17,000-18,000 PG students studying at OU wrote their examinations.
The officer added, “For PG evaluation, this was the first time the online system was introduced and examiners are not familiar with the system. There are several technical problems obstructing correction. A few senior staff suffered neck pain and we asked them to evaluate from home. Results of all courses have not been delayed. We have already released the results for 12 departments out of 52.”
“The results can be delayed but the university wants no goof-up. Hence the proper correction since it is an online system,” added the officer.
