Bengaluru: Model footpath better than TenderSure, says former minister

Both the TenderSure and Model footpath road has been developed by the BBMP engineers.

BENGALURU: When footpaths better than TenderSure specification can be laid at just Rs 90 lakh per kilometre why should the BBMP and state government spend a whopping Rs 12 crore per kilometre, questioned Padmanabhanagar MLA R. Ashok on Thursday.

Inaugurating a model footpath at South End in Yediyur ward Ashok said in fact, the model footpath has better features vis-a-vis TenderSure roads. Model footpath has park, lighting, seating facility and Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) among others. An addition of Rs 40 lakh has been earmarked for one kilometre of road, he said.

Both the TenderSure and Model footpath road has been developed by the BBMP engineers. When the model footpath and road can be executed at less that Rs 1.5 crore per kilometre (including the road) why should Rs 12 crore be spent on TenderSure. By following model footpath project, tax payers’ money can be saved, he said and added that instead of TenderSure, model footpath and roads will be encouraged on roads across the Padmanabhanagar constituency.

The BBMP may be spending a whopping Rs 12 crore for a kilometre of TenderSure road, but Yediyur corporator Poornima Ramesh claimed that the model footpath at South End, which has better features, has been developed at just '90 lakh per kilometre.

The footpath is user friendly and eco-friendly. TenderSure does not have Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) facility, OFC, sewerage, Bescom and BSNL lines too. Only water supply lines are not there.

Apart from utility ducts, the project has RWH pits, street lights and seating arrangements to benefit pedestrians. Street light uses power generated from the garbage generated in the ward.
