Rains derail life in Guntur city
Amaravati: Most areas of Guntur city remained in darkness due to the absence of power after strong winds and sudden rain.
The public faced severe difficulties for 12 hours due to cutting of the power in the Guntur and other areas of the district on Thursday. The big trees, electric lines and power poles fallen due to the gale mixed sudden rain in Guntur district and one person was killed at Bapatla.
The rain water stagnated in the Rail Under Bridge (RUB) at Kankaragunta in Guntur which troubled the public to the cross the RUB. A sanitation worker, E. Satyam (30) was electrocuted when an electric line fallen on him due to uprooting of a big tree at Bapatla.
The public of Guntur, GS Viswas, S. Viswanath and others of RTC colony, Lakshmipuram, Krishna Nagar, Nehru nagar, Kothpeta, Brodipeta, Arundelpeta and other areas of the Guntur city lamented that they remained in the darkness from mid night to 12 noon on Thursday. They alleged that lot of times they lodged complaints with Transco but no one responded and they got power only on Thursday mid-day.
The majority big trees in the city had fallen on the Amaravati and Vijayawada roads and further in majority colonies of the city. The RUB at Kankaragunta was filled with rainwater. The public faced to pass the RUB in knee level water and alleged that the Guntur Municipal corporation did not taken any measures to remove the rainwater with the help of motors.
All villages in 30 substation in and around Guntur remained in the darkness. The electricity poles that carrying the power supply conductors to 33 KV sub-stations from the 220 kv substation at Tadikonda, uprooted in several locations which stopped the power supply. Nearly 1,000 electricity poles were damaged and the APSPDCL staffs are engaged in the restoration of the electric poles and lines.
An official of APSPDCL said that electricity staffs are unable to reach some remote areas which is became a hurdle for the restoration of power in the rural areas. He added that rural areas of Bapatla and Tenali towns and majority villages are still in the darkness.
APSPDCL Guntur Circle Superintending Engineer, S Jayabharath Rao speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that power supply was disturbed under several 33KV feeders and 11 KV feeders in different parts of Guntur city. He said that the APSPDCL pressed staffs into action and power supply was restored to the Guntur city by 3 pm.
