Canals in Nellore to get facelift
Nellore: Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu has given a presentation on the development of Nellore tank, construction of an island in the tank and installation of the statue of Sri Amarajeevi Potti Sreeramulu on it during a review on progress of projects in the pipeline for Nellore here on Friday.
A bird nesting island and strengthening of tank bund are also included in the plan.
The minister suggested that the three canals in the Nellore town viz. Krishna Patnam canal, Sarvepalli canal and Jaffer Sahib canal need to be beautified and encroachments removed.
He also suggested that work on Buckingham canal needs to be speeded up.
Presentations were also made on demolishing the present APSRTC bus stand and erecting a new structure in two years time.
The new bus stand will house commercial establishments, offices and multiplex, and would generate internal revenues. A presentation was also made on the development of Nellore Railway station. Referring to NH-16, Mr Venkaiah Naidu said work on the stretch of highway near Manubolu, which was washed away during the floods of Nov. 15, needs to be expedited.
Municipal minister P. Narayana and agriculture minister Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy were present.
