3 killed, 1 hurt in car-truck collision near Salem

Salem: At least three persons including two of a family were killed on the spot and another person critically injured in a gruesome head-on collision between a car and a truck near Vazhapadi on the Salem-Chennai national highway near here on Tuesday afternoon.

A Chinnapparaj (38) of Varadarajanpet in Ariyalur district, were returning in a car to their village after visiting a place of worship in Namakkal district, when the ghastly mishap occurred.

The car driver Rajan (30), who was at the wheel suddenly lost control of the vehicle which crashed through the centre median on the NH and straight hit a truck proceeding towards Salem.

In the impact of the collision, three occupants of the car including its driver Rajan, Radhika Mary and Chinnapparaj were killed on the spot, police said.

The Vazhapadi police on information rushed to the accident spot, retrieved the three bodies in a mutilated state and sent them for post-mortem at the Mohan Kumaramangalam government hospital in Salem.

The critically injured Paulraj was rushed to the Vazhapadi government hospital where he is under treatment.

The Vazhapadi police have registered a case and are investigating.
