Mysuru: While the resignation of two Congress MLAs has expectedly set off speculation about the BJP renewing its efforts to topple the coalition government in the state, higher education minister, G T Devegowda begs to differ.
In his view, the BJP leadership at the Centre is much too busy to try and destabilise the state government.
“It’s not upto the state BJP leaders to try and topple the coalition government. It is in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. And if a BJP government has to be formed in the state it has to happen on Mr Modi's orders. But they are busy with the parliamentary session, preparation for the budget and talks with USA and China,” he contended, speaking to reporters in Mysuru on Tuesday.
“Mr Amit Shah is not involved in the resignation of the two MLAs. So no one should blame the BJP. No one from the JD(S) has resigned and Mr Ramesh Jarkiholi’s issues are not new. No one knows what Mr Anand Singh's problems are. But just because two MLAs have resigned it doesn't mean, the government will fall. They have resigned for personal reasons,” he maintained.
The minister later went on a tour of Chamaraja, Krishnaraja and Narasimharaja constituencies with their respective MLAs, including BJP legislators, L Nagendra and S A Ramdas and Congress MLA, Tanveer Sait. He was also accompanied by Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath and Mysuru deputy commissioner, Abhiram G Shankar.
