Dr K Sudhakar’s tenure at KSPCB uncertain
Bengaluru: Following the exit of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government and the installation of a BJP government which is yet to get a full fledged cabinet, the functioning of government institutions has been hit and one of them is the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) with sources saying not a single discussion has happened or file moved on important issues due to the non-availability of the chairman, disqualified Chikkaballapura MLA Dr K. Sudhakar.
Officials at the board however assert that till the new government takes a decision on the appointment of a new chairman, Dr Sudhakar will continue to hold the post.
“Though he is in the city he has not come to the board office. He may continue to hold the post till the new government appoints someone else. There were chances of him continuing as chairman but after the disqualification, his chances have become bleak.
If at all the government wants to appoint him again to the same post, his resignation will have to be obtained and he will have to be reappointed as chairman,” a senior official in the board explained.
The source added that major works in the department were affected since January due to the dilly dallying by the government on the appointment of the chairman with Dr Sudhakar finally chosen on June 21, hardly a month before the coalition government collapsed..
“Since the chairman is authorized to represent the board in courts, no one from the department will be able to go to the court when cases involving KSPCB come up. important decisions on upcoming festivals have also not been taken,” an official said.
