Hyderabad: Nimmagadda Prasad seeks exemption from court
Hyderabad: Industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad on Friday informed the CBI special court here that he could not come to India by Thursday as per his earlier undertaking as he has been taken into custody by the police in Serbia on July 27.
Before leaving for Europe, Mr Prasad had submitted an undertaking to the CBI court that he would return by August 2.
Prasad’s counsels U. Umamaheshwar Rao and T.P.T. Shas-tri told the CBI court that he had been illegally detained by the Serbia police following a red corner notice issued against him on a complaint by the government of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), one of the seven United Arab Emirates countries. It is believed that the RAS notice was with regard to the Vanpic project involving Prasad.
Counsels requested the court to initiate CBI action to bring Mr Prasad to the country. “If he is in the custody of the UAE government, the CBI will not be able to invstigate the cases pending against him,” counsels said.
CBI counsel submitted that the agency was not related to the arrest. The CBI court said it cannot give any directions to the investigative authorities to send Prasad to India. It said it would take a memo that he was not able visit the country.
RAK had invested `500 crore in 2008 to develop the Vadarevu port in Prakasam district and Nizampatnam (VANPIC) in Guntur district. Following a complaint, the CBI had filed a case and arrested Prasad, who later secured bail and visited abroad in 2018.
