Nizamabad Govt Hospital Junior Doctors Protest Against Attack On Female Doctor

NIZAMABAD: Junior doctors at the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad staged a protest after a gynaecologist was assaulted by the attendant of a patient at the hospital on Wednesday. The attendant abused the female doctor and obstetrics PG resident doctor and over the alleged negligence in the treatment.

According to sources, a pregnant woman was admitted to Government General Hospital for delivery. As per the changed norms, a woman attendant was allowed into the labour room during the delivery.

However, after noticing the profuse blood loss during the procedure of delivery, the attendant questioned the doctor and abused her. When the hospital staff tried to send her out, she assaulted the doctor, which led to a tense situation at the hospital.

Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) of Nizamabad unit condemned the assault on the female doctor and called for a boycott of duties. They also staged a protest on the hospital premises and submitted a memorandum to the GGH superintendent Prathima Raj, demanding action against the accused. It is the third such incident of attack on doctors this year, they said.

Meanwhile, GGH superintendent Prathima Raj said that they complained with the police over the incident. Attacks on doctors will affect the morale of the medical fraternity, she said. ‘After they were assuaged, the junior doctors agreed to attend duties as usual’, she said. For the benefit of the pregnant woman, we are allowing one female attendant into the labour room, but few people are misusing it, she added.
