Neet aspirants left in the lurch
Hyderabad: Parents said medical seat aspirants who were eligible for admission under A or B category through counselling were being thwarted by private colleges which were selling the seats for double the rate.
The parents alleged that colleges were demanding up to Rs 25 lakh per annum, which would add up to Rs 1 crore for the full course. Most families were unable to pay such high fee, parents said.
A parent alleged that Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences and Maheshwara Medical College were denied recognition for academic year 2018-19 but it was restored on the midnight of August 31.
Counselling for MBBS seats by the Medical Council of India and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Heath Sciences had been completed by then.
The parent said the left-over seats after counselling were returned to the medical colleges to be filled up by them. The last date was August 31. “Had these two colleges been given recognition before the last date, many deserving candidates would have been eligible for A or B seats through counselling,” he said, adding this his daughter was among them.
“If they get permission we can do counselling for convenor quota seats, which they cannot sell. We have not got any information about recognition for Maheshwara Medical College but if the parents have any complaints they should give us a complaint,” Health university vice-chancellor Dr B. Karunakar Reddy said.
Maheshwara Medical College denied getting recognition and officials from Malla Reddy Institute were not available for comment.
