Telangana High Court raps govt over cop jobs

Police Recruitment Board had to fill 5,900 constable posts.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court found fault with the Telangana State-level Police Recruitment Board (TSLPRB) for not publishing the provisional merit list of the written exams conducted for the recruitment of stipendary cadet trainee police constable (civil) posts.

Dealing a petition alleging that there were irregularities in filling up more than 5,900 police constable posts in civil cadre, Justice P. Naveen Rao sought the TSLPRB’s explanation.

The petitioners, S. Santhoshi and 10 other women aspirants to posts within the women quota, approached the Court stating that TSLPRB was applying a normalization procedure among same gender group, which totally disturbing relative merit of each candidate within their gender group. They apprehended that anomalies might have occurred during issuing appointments, without publishing a merit list and without mentioning marks before normalisation.

The Court adjourned the case to October 15, after issuing a notice to the TSLPRB seeking an explanation on the contention of the petitioners. The TSLPRB issued a notification in 2018 for recruitment of 16,925 police constable posts in eight categories, among them, for civil (5,909 posts) and AR (5,273) categories, for which women candidates were eligible.

In physical efficiency tests, male candidates had to take five tests and female candidates had to undertake three tests. The normalisation procedure is applied to finalize a merit list based on marks secured in the physical efficiency tests and the written exams.
