Kozhikode: The executive council of Central University of Kerala, Kasargod, has suspended the dismissal order it had issued to post graduate student Akhil Thazhathu.
Mr Thazhathu was dismissed on September 6 for allegedly taking part in the protests on the campus against the alleged unilateral moves of the university authorities and “the fascist environment that prevailed in the university ”.
The university officials said the executive, which met in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, took into consideration the apology letter of the student as well as the opinion of people’s representatives in the region before taking the decision.
According to Mr Thazhathu, it was the attitude of the university administration against a student that led to the protest. He also later put a Facebook post detailing the indifferent attitude of the university authorities towards the students that led to the dismissal.
The students of the university had launched an agitation demanding that the authorities revoke the dismissal order.
Vice-Chancellor G. Gopakumar, however, said the student was dismissed based on an enquiry report regarding his malpractices in the university.
