Chennai: Two new animal species in Vandalur zoo

Visitors can enjoy seeing these playful and active animals, said a press release.

Chennai: The Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP) houses many attractive exotic primate species such as Chimpanzee, Savannah Baboon. In order to enrich this collection of exotic primate animals, Vandalur zoo received a pair of Tufted Capuchin monkey as part of animal exchange programme from Mysore zoo. One male from each species of squirrel monkey and red handed Tamarin were received from the local sources. “After thorough quarantine and screening done at the zoo veterinary hospital, these three animal species will be kept for the public display from November 3.

Visitors can enjoy seeing these playful and active animals,” said a press release. Squirrel Monkey has a very attractive feature with a very long tail. At times it puts its long tail over the shoulder. Red Tamarin species is unique for its red limbs in a black body, the release said, noting that Tufted Capuchin is known for its playfulness, swinging in the ropes and the poles. These animals will attract visitors especially the children.
