Hyderabad: Saifabad police seized Rs 70 lakh cash from a man which was allegedly being taken to Serilingampally TD candidate Bhavya Anand to be distributed to voters, police said.
Saifabad ACP C. Venu Gopal Reddy said, the man identified as P. Shiva Kumar, director of Bhavya Cements, was carrying the cash in his car along with driver Syed Khaja when he was stopped late on Sunday night. “Shiva Kumar confessed that he collected the cash from one Vinod Agarwal from Sindhi Colony and was transporting the same to the candidate on his orders. He said Bhavya Anand was going to distribute the money among the voters,” said Ramgopalpet Admin SI K. Pratap Reddy.
Asked about the arrest of Mr Anand, the officer said election-related cases were non-cognisable offences and the police takes a confessional statement, sends a letter to the court seeking permission to take further actions.
The man was handed over to the I-T department, along with the seized cash for further investigations.
