SHRC orders plaint filed on BJP leader
Hyderabad: The State Human Rig-hts Commission (SH-RC) on Monday directed the Cyberabad police to file a complaint against BJP leader and advocate M. Raghunandan Rao. He was accused of asking for money to allegedly bribe a judge and demanding sexual favours from a client. The client also accused him of rape.
The SHRC stated that Mr Raghunandhan Rao had appeared for the client in a criminal case against her husband and in-laws and a claim for maintenance from the husband.
It stated that the petitioner had alleged that Mr Raghunandan Rao demanded money from her as bribe for a judge and the public prosecutor and had asked her sexual favours. When the petitioner approached the RC Puram police to lodge a complaint against Mr Raghunandan Rao, the police refused, according to the complaint with the SHRC.
The commission stated that the petitioner was at liberty to file a complaint before the police station concerned and asked them to register a case if the contents disclose a cognisable offence and investigate it.
According to the RC Puram police, they received a complaint stating that the woman had filed had a harassment case against her husband in 2003 and a maintenance case in 2007 through Mr Raghunandan Rao.
She alleged that the advocate called her to his office at Patan-cheru and gave coffee laced with some substance. When she fell unconscious, he raped her, the woman alleged. He threatened to publish photographs on social media. He also threatened her with dire consequences and blackmailed her to try and prevent her from going to the police, the complainant alleged.
On Monday she filed the complaint with the RC Puram police. On her complaint, a case of rape, threatening and blackmail was registered against the advocate, police said.
Asked about the allegation and the case booked against him, Mr Raghunandan Rao told Deccan Chronicle, “The allegations made against me are absolutely false and fabricated. I haven’t received any notice and information from anyone. I can comment once I receive any document and go through them.”
