Nara Lokesh to file papers for MLC elections

Nara Lokesh is expected to file his nomination for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on March 6.

Vijayawada: TD national general secretary Nara Lokesh is expected to file his nomination for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on March 6. The party finalised the MLA quota to elect Lokesh for the MLC position. According to TD sources, the decision to file nomination on March 6 was made since March 7 is the last day to file the papers in the MLA quota and also being Tuesday is sentimentally not good. Based on each party’s strength, the TD and the YSRC are expected to garner five and two MLC seats, respectively.

Meanwhile, the TD is expected to announce other nominees within a couple of days. TD leaders say that the party chose the MLC route for Lokesh’s formal entry into the direct political arena. He is also expected to be given a Cabinet berth shortly. All is set for Chief Min-ister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s scion Mr Lokesh for the elections to the state Legislative Council. Once elected to the Upper House, Mr Lokesh’s inclusion in the state Cabinet will be a mere formality.

TD politburo on February 26 discussed with Mr Naidu to nominate his son to the Legislative Council and later Lokesh himself thanked the party for the decision. Mr Lokesh holds the key position of general secretary in the party headed by his father and has been playing a major role in formulating its policies and programmes. TD is exercising to make all it members file nominations on March 6 along with Mr lokesh. The competition is very tough for the TD to select its other candidates. The TD is taking all measures for the March 6 nominations with the anticipation of impact on March 9 local body elections. Meanwhile, the YSRC had announced its MLC candidates from MLA quota namely Alla Nani and Gangula Prabhakar Reddy.
