Poll panel team coming, reshuffle of officials on cards?
Bengaluru: The Election Commmission of India is likely to reshuffle a few bureaucrats after its visit to Karnataka later this week.
The full fledged team of the commission will visit Bengaluru for three days starting Wednesday to review preparations for the polls.
Highly placed sources in the state government told Deccan Chronicle that ahead of the pronouncement of the poll calendar, the state government had reshuffled the officials at the district level besides effecting many transfers of IPS officers.
For instance, Bengaluru urban deputy commissioner V Shankar was transferred and a senior minister's relative, K. Dayanand was brought in his place. The government reportedly posted officials loyal to very senior ministers and chief minister to key positions.
"The ECI got the feedback through various channels about such officials. These officials will be transferred once the ECI team returns to Delhi," sources said. Meanwhile, after meeting governor Vajubhai Vala, DG and IG Neelmani Raju had on Monday sent out a clear signal that action would be taken against police officials found to be involved in malpractices or biased action.
