No life this! Periyapatna village to boycott Loksabha poll

They also complain they are short of water, and have no drainage system or streetlights.

Mysuru: People of Mummadi Kaval village in Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru-Kodagu constituency are so fed up with their poor living conditions and the neglect of successive governments that they have decided to boycott these Loksabha polls.

Although the village has a large population of scheduled caste and backward class communities, it still does not have proper roads, and the people find their houses flooded in every spell of heavy rain. They also complain they are short of water, and have no drainage system or streetlights.

Although Mummadi Kaval has been chosen under the Prime Minister’s model village programme and Rs 45 lakh has been allotted for its development , government officers have failed to provide its people basic facilities, says a villager, Doddaiah. Ironically, the village is part of the Malangi gram panchayat, which has been labelled a model gram panchayat and awarded the Gandhi Puraskar, he notes.

With no option left, the angry villagers have decided to draw attention to their plight by boycotting the elections, hoping that at least this will rid the officers of their apathy.
