Bengaluru: CID IGP Malini to probe hotel raid'

CID SP Madhura Veena has filed a complaint before the SC/ST Commission against former CID IGP Sonia Narang.

BENGALURU: Inspector General of Police, Internal Security Division, Malini Krishnamurthy will head the investigation in the anti prostitution 'raid,' which was conducted by the Superintendent of Police, Criminal Investigation Department M.L. Madhura Veena in a four star hotel - Orchid Ramada - in the City on March 3 and the alleged extortion of Rs 2 lakh by the CID cops from the hotel authorities thereafter.

Director General and Inspector General of Police Omprakash has asked Ms Krishnamurthy to investigate the 'raid' and also examine the report, which was submitted by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, CID Sonia Narang on the incident and submit the report to him.

On March 3 Ms Veena along with 11 policemen had allegedly barged inside room number 306 in Ramada, without a search warrant, stating that she had credible information that the hotel was running a prostitution racket. Two girls from Delhi had booked the hotel online and were staying in room number 306, when the CID team led by their SP barged inside the room.

When they failed to find any evidence of prostitution they reportedly threatened the hotel authorities that they would book a case against them if they didn't pay them Rs 5 lakh. After the 'raid' was over the SP had called Ms Narang and she told them to leave the hotel premises immediately.

The hotel management later filed a complaint with the DGP, CID Kishore Chandra on the incident and the SP's role in the entire racket. Chandra had asked his DIG to conduct an inquiry, following which Ms Narang recorded the statements of the raiding party and submitted the report to DGP, CID.

Ms Veena subsequently lodged a complaint against Ms Narang before the SC/ST Commission for allegedly harassing her. To clear the air Chandra had requested the DG&IGP to institute an impartial inquiry by an agency other than the CID in the raid and the alleged demand for extortion by them.
