Citizens ignore vastu for water in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: With groundwater becoming scarce and borewells going deep or defunct, house owners are choosing water availability over Vastu.
Vastu experts suggest the northeast as the ideal location in a plot/house to locate a borewell. Barring a lucky few, many get water in other locations like the south, west or the southwest of the house. Though Vaastu experts predict negative effects if a borewell is dug anywhere else other than in the northeast, house owners are locating a sump in the northeast for remedy.
“I dug a 1,000-feet borewell based on Vastu in the northeast in my plot in Bowenpally. There was not a drop of water. I lost nearly Rs 1 lakh. I consulted a groundwater expert who located water in the southwest, where I got water,” said Mr Chittaranjan, a dealer in pump sets. He added, “a Vastu expert suggested that I build a sump in the northeast as a remedy.”
Take the case of Moulali resident K Ashok. “I took a chance and dug a borewell in the northeast as per Vastu and got water. But I had to dig up to 1,200 feet. An expert said I would get more water in south, but I ignored it.”
Mr Raghupathi Reddy, a senior official with the state groundwater department said people were now prefering water over Vastu. “In 70 per cent of the cases, water is found in places other than the northeast of a house. Ultimately, you need water,” he said.
Mr Reddy advised priority to be given to the quantum of water that a borewell would yield. “I always tell people to dig a borewell where there is abundant and lasting water source. There is severe water stress in the city. People accept it.”
Mr Pradeep of Pardeep Architects said people were willing to compromise and have borewells elsewhere on the plot, and build a sump to hold water in the northeast. “There are remedies in Vastu, hence not many insist on the northeast, which is considered ideal,” he said.
Vastu expert Phani Rajkumar said borewells should be ideally located in the northeast for good health. “There is bound to be negative effect on house owners if it is in the southwest or other places. But there is a remedy. These borewells should be outside the compound wall.”
