Security tightened around Big temple in Thanjavur
Thanjavur: Security around Big temple here has been beefed up following decision taken by Tamil Nadu government to increase security around important places like world monuments in the wake of recent bomb blasts in Sri Lanka.
A team of police officials led by Vasanthan, DSP, (security), Tamil Nadu police visited the Big temple on Friday and checked the security arrangements. Vasanthan checked the surveillance cameras installed in the temple from control room. “There are 31 cameras out of which ten are working. Instructions have been given to make all the cameras functional and also install a separate metal detector at Raja Rajan Gopuram at the entrance” the police said.
Vasanthan later visited Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) office and he held discussions with its officials. He also held discussions with the police, fire and rescue services personnel and city corporation officials.

A police team led by Nagaraj, CB-CID inspector checked the security arrangements at Swaminathaswamy temple at Swamimalai near Kumbakonam.
The team checked the surveillance cameras, places where principal deities (icons) are kept, Vasantha Mandapam, places where Hundiyals are installed, temple office etc.
The police told officials to follow one way arrangement for having darshan by devotees. They also insisted that temple employees should wear identity cards and traders who have shops outside temple should also have identity cards. Ledgers should be maintained on handing over keys by the ‘archakas’, employees during change of duties and proper security should be made for icons, they said.
